Community Disaster Education

We have several presentations to help people prepare for disasters, know what to do when disasters strike and how they can help others in their community in time of disaster.

Our Community Disaster Education Presentations are:

  • Free to community groups throughout Central Massachusetts
  • Each presentation is approximately 30 minutes in length
  • Four age-specific presentations are available

Preschool - Kindergarten
Fire Safety - an interactive Fire Safety lesson presented to children ages 3-6 featuring Snuffy the Smoke Detector and a short video with Sparky the Fire Dog! The program has a picture presentation of things that are hot, things not to play with, and other fire safe topics.

Grades 1 - 5
Family Disaster Planning - a presentation which focuses on assembling Family Disaster Supply Kits and Family Disaster Planning. Through the Adventures of the Disaster Dudes video, presenters explain the importance of being prepared for various disasters.

Grades 6 - 8
Keeping Ahead of the Storm - A discussion of various types of weather emergencies including: earthquakes, floods, heat waves, hurricanes, lightening, tornadoes and winter storms. This program focuses on recognizing local weather emergencies and preparing for these types of disasters.

High School & Adults
Together We Prepare - this presentation encourages five actions that every organization, individual and family should take to better prepare themselves for any emergency or disaster: Make a Plan, Build a Kit, Get Trained, Volunteer, and Give Blood.

If your community group would like to schedule a presentation or would like more information please contact Nicole Valentine, Director of Emergency Services, (508) 595-3727, valentin@usa.redcross.org.
