Vintage Artwork on Electronic Display to Celebrate 100 Years of Red Cross Service

The staff at the Red Cross of Central Massachusetts are turning "oohhs" and "aahhs" into a high-tech fundraising opportunity. "Our collection of vintage Red Cross posters has been a hit in with everyone who's seen it," says Nicole Valentine, director of public affairs at the chapter. "People really seem to connect with the images. We are excited to finally be able to make them available to our supporters."

Thanks to a partnership with OpenPrint.org, a Massachusetts technology company, these vintage posters are now available for viewing and purchase on a special website. Visitors to the site can customize and purchase a 12-month wall calendar that features their favorite images from the collection. Each printed calendar is unique and purchases help support the chapter. Executive Director Lisa Piehler added, "the website is a great opportunity for us to tell the Red Cross story through pictures and to raise funds at the same time." The gallery can be viewed online from the chapter website at https://www.openprint.org/red_cross_central_mass.

About the Vintage Red Cross Posters

Between 1918 and 1952 many distinguished artists and illustrators produced memorable works that defined the American Red Cross as the leader in providing humanitarian service. Artists such as Norman Rockwell, N.C. Wyeth, Howard Chandler Christy, and James Montgomery Flagg created works for the annual Roll Call membership and fundraising campaigns. Their work was widely distributed across the nation and became part of the changing cultural landscape of America.
