28 local citizens to be honored for acts of heroism.

Worcester, MA, September 4, 2002 - The American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts announced today it will host its first commemorative "Everyday Heroes" Breakfast on September 11, 2002. The invitation only event will be held at the WPI Campus Center at 7:30 am.

The event will mark the first year of healing from the September 11th tragedies and serve as an important reminder that there are many among us who perform extraordinary actions each day through their courage, kindness, and unselfishness. Keynote speaker Rabbi Seth Bernstein from Temple Sinai in Worcester will share his moving, firsthand account of the volunteer response to the devastating events of a year ago.

Twenty-eight local residents will be recognized for their heroic acts at the 1st Annual Breakfast. Each Hero has been selected through a nomination process in the categories of Blood Donor, Certified Nurse Assistant, Good Samaritan/Humanitarian (Adult), Good Samaritan/Humanitarian (Youth), International Humanitarian Worker and Lifeguard/Water Safety.

"Our honorees may not think of themselves as heroes, however, we know they are ordinary people who have performed extraordinary acts to assist, and in some cases save the life of a co-worker, neighbor or loved one," said Nicole Valentine, spokesperson for the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts. "Each honoree personifies the qualities that are at the core of the mission of the American Red Cross."

This invitation only event is sponsored by Allmerica Financial, Bowditch & Dewey, Carlin, Charron & Rosen LLP, Millbury Federal Credit Union, Sovereign Bank, Woodmeister Corporation and WTAG & WSRS Radio. Attendees will include local politicians, community leaders, heroes, their family members and nominators.

For more information, please contact Nicole Valentine at 508-756-5711 x 328. Thank you.
