June 17, 2003 - After weeks of continuous rain, the sun broke through the clouds for what was an inspirational and long awaited event celebrating the groundbreaking for the new headquarters, The Remillard Building. The ceremony was held on the site of the new Headquarters at 2000 Century Drive, off of East Mountain Street at the Worcester Corporate Center.

The new Chapter Headquarters will be named The Remillard Building in honor of the generous campaign donation given by the Remillard Family Foundation. "The American Red Cross helps with so many of the critical needs of this community each and every day," said Arthur J. Remillard, III, Director of the Remillard Family Foundation. "This new building should greatly assist them with the wonderful job that they do. My entire family is proud to be associated with this fine organization."

"After years of study, planning and fundraising, we are now a step closer toward our goal of providing better services to people throughout central Massachusetts," said Robert S. Heppe, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts. "This wonderful facility will allow us to provide the highest quality services to clients such as a frightened child who has just watched his house burn down, the lonely soldier thousands of miles from her home, the aspiring student who is training to become a nurse assistant, and the mental health worker tirelessly tending to the needs of local disaster victims. The new headquarters will accommodate our technological, communications, training and storage needs and will be fully equipped to enable us to respond to disasters more quickly. We will be fully operational by the spring of 2004."
