Nondiscrimination PolicyMISSION STATEMENT: The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The International Red Cross is founded on a set of seven principles which all Red Cross employees and volunteers are expected to practice. The seven principles are: HUMANITY: dedicated to preventing human suffering wherever it is found. IMPARTIALITY: does not discriminate concerning nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. NEUTRALITY: may not take sides in hostilities or engage in political, racial or religious controversies. INDEPENDENCE: a Red Cross society must be able to act independently of its national government. VOLUNTARY SERVICE: Red Cross volunteers do not act out of a desire for gain. UNITY: only one Red Cross society is permitted in any country and it is open to all. UNIVERSALITY: Red Cross is a worldwide institution. Nondiscrimination PolicyIt is the policy of the American Red Cross, in recognition of its responsibility to its employees, volunteers, service recipients, and the community it serves, to provide equal opportunity to all people and to promote the full realization of that policy through a positive, continuing program to be known as the American Red Cross Affirmative Action Plan. The American Red Cross is mandated by the Federal Government to provide assistance to anyone in need as a result of disasters, small and large, and does not discriminate against anyone for any reason. The American Red Cross supports and has a strong commitment to the principles of nondiscrimination and equal opportunity. The American Red Cross recruits, hires, trains, transfers, promotes and compensates individuals and makes all decisions without regard to race, color, religion, age, as defined by law, sex, national origin or ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation, nor against any handicapped individual, disabled veteran, or veteran of the Vietnam era or member of the Reserves or National Guard. Grievance ProceduresEmployees, volunteers and service recipients of the American Red Cross of Central Massachusetts Chapter are encouraged to address any complaints regarding violations of the Nondiscrimination Policy with the Director of the department.
