Health and Safety Instructor Job Description

This per diem/on call position offers flexibility and the opportunity to teach American Red Cross Health and Safety curriculums to businesses and the community on a contract/schedule basis. Requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.
  • Must be able to present a minimum availability of 12-15 hours per month. (Availability does not guarantee utilization.)
  • Able to teach Day time hours between 7:00am-4:00pm and 1:00pm - 6:00pm
  • Must successfully complete a 16 hour Instructor Training program.(A pre-conditioned to confirmed employment as a staff instructor.) - Confirmation of an existing ARC Instructor Certification or a current AHA Instructor Certification may limit the hours required for Instructor Training.
  • Minimum of 6 hrs of Co-teaching.
  • Excellent presentation, organizational and communication skills a must.

Responsibilities:

  • Successfully complete extensive American Red Cross Instructor training program.
  • Prepare course materials before each course.
  • Travel to course sites and arrive 20-30 minutes before the class starts to set-up and problem-solve.
  • Deliver high quality Health and Safety courses.
  • Combine lecture with videos, books and CPR/First Aid skills practice.
  • Act as American Red Cross ambassador-ensure students leave with a positive perception of the American Red Cross and answer questions about or refer students to other American Red Cross programs and services.
  • Motivate students to learn and participate.
  • Evaluate students' skill performance and correct students' written exams.
  • Administer American Red Cross course completion certificates to the student who successfully completes all course objectives.
  • Work with, and accommodate, students with physical and mental disabilities and/or students with language/reading barriers.
  • Complete and submit all paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Return equipment to American Red Cross of Central Mass in accordance with preset return policies.
  • Successfully complete on-going Instructor Training Programs.
  • Work as a team member to co-teach large classes.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the Personnel Policies.
  • Otherwise assigned duties based on your availability, contract obligation, or staffing issues.

Exciting News for All Certified Phlebotomists!

Our Health Services Department is expanding their Health Care courses to include a day / evening Phlebotomy Class. We are in need of an experienced Certified Phlebotomist professional. If you enjoy teaching and would like to combine your Phlebotomist experience to teach others, this position is for you!!!

The primary function is to instruct classes according to an approved course syllabus using accepted and effective teaching methods in such a way as to contribute to the high standards of the American Red Cross.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classes using organized and interesting methods which stimulate a work environment and facilitate student motivation.
  • Skilled in developing and conducting successful training programs, and must have knowledge of learning principles and training techniques.
  • Serve as a professional role model for students.
  • Monitor and record daily class attendance and grades within the established procedures.
  • Administer examinations based upon stated course objectives.
  • Adhere to all OSHA regulations.
  • Provide feedback to the Director of Health services regarding the course curriculum, student enrollments and classroom issues.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Phlebotomist
  • 5 years experience working as a Phlebotomist
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Detail oriented to keep accurate records of attendance and grades
